Coming off last weeks bye, and our mid season training camp on the Sunshine Coast, the boys were refreshed and focused on Friday nights round 8 clash against old rivals, Aspley. Due to the wet weather and ground closure, the game was moved to the Narangba Crows field on Sunday, still giving us a slight home ground advantage with a number of boys having played junior footy with the Crows.
Having won our last 4 games in a row, we had a chance to make it 5 from as many starts, securing our third place on the ladder. During the week we had Sam Mayes and Niall McKeever from the Brisbane Lions come train with the lads, giving the boys some real insight into how the game is played and measured at the elite level.
Arriving at the ground, our focus was maintaining our fast starts and our centre clearance work. Aguang is becoming a first goal specialist, opening up our account within the first minute of the game, again off the back of some clever ruck work from our midfield group Domonic, Bailey, Sam and Blake. Aspley were quick to reply, but it would be all one way traffic from there on, Tigers finishing the quarter 8 goals to the Hornets 1.
Second quarter started much the same, as the boys kicked well clear. Dominating with most of the possession, our forward line started to fire, Aaron starring in the first half with 8 goals while Cooper and Corey snagged 2 each. Going into halftime a very comfortable 84 points in front.
Aspley rallied after the long break, keeping the Tigers to only 3 goals for the term but couldn't capitalise on the scoreboard as our back line repelled the ball out of defence, linking up with Sam and Jacob who worked hard both ways all day.
Final quarter turned into some what of a highlight reel for the boys, pilling on 9 goals to 0, running out clear winners 27-11-173 to 2-2-14. Aaron finishing the day with 15 goals in what would have to be a club
record. A lot of stand out performances all day, Harley leading the way with his pressure acts around the ground.
Would like to thank everyone at Narangba Crows for accommodating our game and making us feel very welcomed all day. Thanks to all our team supporters and volunteers.
