The scene was set for our very last home game of the fixture season and we were playing a team we have had some very tough battles with over the years and we were prepared for the same again. The players have begun accepting responsibility for their own preparation and have started to add professionalism to their approach both in attitudes and training and all goes well for their future if they continue along the path that they have chosen.

We were fortunate enough to be able to provide an opportunity to another three permit players to our team for the day due to the unavailability to Stokesy, Matty, Dawso and Jaykey V. The Narangba club was very receptive in our plea for loan players who they deemed worthy and capable of experiencing div 1 footy. Dave Roberts, Bradley Anderson and Jordan Menheere made the trip to Rothwell and we are so grateful to the boys, their parents and their club for not just allowing it to happen but for making it happen. All the boys seemed to have enjoyed the chance and they certainly didn’t look out of place and showed they were prepared to go when it was their turn to do so and that was all we asked. Well done boys, we hope you enjoyed the day.

Once again it may have appeared that we were a little slow out of the blocks but whenever you play in this type of competition, opposition sides will come at you and build up resistance at some time and Coorparoo did that during the first half. Our message was simple though during both the first break and the long break. Be patient and continue to do what you have been doing and the chances will come. We could have had a bigger lead at half time but our kicking was inaccurate. However we still held the advantage at half time with a 32 point lead.

A reshuffle of our forward structure with Jacko and Ty going back to their standard set up inside 50 and then the game begun opening up. We were getting great drive from Josh Hanning, Luke Barker and Lachy Johnson of half back as well as Sandsy when he was moved back there. Trent Ely, Peter Furness and Trent Ricker were tireless across the middle and Jacko, Ty and Pittle continued to provide options up forward and that enabled players like Tommy, Charlie, Crispey and Brando to crumb effectively which they did. Needless to say we were getting better as the game went on and a 10 goal to 4 goal second half put the game beyond doubt and ensured our goal for the day came to fruition. Great job boys.

Over the last few weeks there have been some big improvements in our side in mental application and desire and these have been the key ingredients that have got us back on track even though we have yet to be able to play our full strength side. The last few weeks since the big break have seen us unable to provide a bench from our own list and the help from other teams has been greatly appreciated The weekends are coming where we will be unable to rely on anyone else to help so I am asking any player with injuries or other commitments to do their utmost to make themselves available and work on their fitness or change arrangements so they are available to play and train. We only have one chance at the remainder of this year so I am hoping everyone wants to make the most of it.

Thanks to my team of Mick, Sal and Darryl and to our parents who supported Sally and volunteered to do the jobs today. It was greatly appreciated. I look forward to seeing you next weekend as we head to Sherwood to play at 12.00pm on Sunday.
