Redcliffe Tigers vs Kedron / Mayne
Final score: 8.7 (55) d 7.9 (51)
------- Game Summary ------
Round 4 saw us play our second home game of the year against the combined side of Kedron / Mayne. After a poor showing at our last home game, the boys were keen to make a mends. Coming off the back of our first win for the season last week against some pretty quality opposition, we were confident going into the weekends game that we had some solid structures in place to take down the Red Leggers.
Some forced last minute changes were made to the side before the first bounce due to Kedron only having 16 players, meant that we would have the advantage of a 6 player bench. The message was to out run them over 4 quarters of football, knowing that having fresh legs on the bench would be critical late in the game. And that it was.
With only 4 points separating both sides all day, the lead would change back and forth all day with Kedron going into halftime with handy 3 point lead. Kicking with the wind after the main break, it was important that we made the most of our chances in front of goal but could only snag the 1 for the quarter, getting us back within 1 point of the lead going into the final break.
The Red Leggers kicked the first goal of the term with only 5 minutes to go almost ensuring them the game, however 2 quick centre clearances our way saw Jacob and Bailey both kicking goals with only a minute to spare. The last 30 secs of the game was tense, but the boys played it all the way to the final siren to get up by 4 points in an absolute nail biter.
All our players were outstanding and stood up when counted. Aaron Bailo playing his best game for the year, showing some true grit playing the last quarter with what we would find out later to be broken ribs. Aaron Roche and Cooper celebrating there 100 games with a very memorable Tigers win.
Congratulations to Domonic Paino who goes to Dalby this week to play in the Sunshine Coast Schoolboys side.
