On Sunday in the under 16’s the Redcliffe Tigers took on Jimboomba, in what would be a memorable day for the young Tigers and a milestone game for Jack Hotham who played his 100th game but also the game off he’s life.
We started off the game very strongly with Trystan Juffs-King winning most of the tap outs getting it straight down to Jack who had the first 3 clearances off the day. As the game settled Jimboomba got into the contest and were up at quarter time, 4.3.27 to 4.1.25.
The second quarter was a completely different story, the Tigers were putting on a clinic and Jimboomba had no answers. Every single one of our 20 players stood up when it counted and it was the best quarter Adam and myself had seen our boys play all year. Not only did we kick 5 goals but we kept Jimboomba scoreless. Karl Flaskett was awesome with his run and his fierce tackling, and second and third efforts, resemblance of an angry bull if anybody got in his way they were mincemeat. In this quarter everybody witnessed one of the goals of the year with Jack Hotham taking off from half back taking 5 bounces and sold so much candy slotting it through at full pace from 30 out, that’s the Tigers future right there. At the break Redcliffe were up 9.8.62 to 4.3.27.
At half time the tigers were on a high but we knew there was plenty of work to be done yet, there was still 40 minutes to be played and it wasn’t going to be easy. From the first bounce Jimboomba took control and the Tigers never looked like scoring, our heads were down our work ethic and accountability dropped and our first half was ruined by a lack of discipline, at three quarter time Jimboomba got within 5 points 9.11.65 to 9.6.60.
At three quarter time the steam coming out of Adams ears was enough to scare the boys and they knew they had a lot of work to do and had to dig deep and full credit to them they did just that. The last quarter was a low scoring affair and all our leaders stood up when it counted. Sam Mackenzie got his run back taking the opposition on every time he got the ball. Damien Burden stood up in defence taking strong overhead marks and once again Jack Hotham was sensational in the middle. Finally Marcus Lewis kicked the sealing goal with about 3 minutes to play. Redcliffe Tigers victors 10.15.75 to Jimboomba 10.10.70
Also an honourable mention to Callum Hill who played and excellent captains game. His leadership on the ground is second to none, just another one of our kids that has a very bright future in football, and also congratulations to Jack Hotham on his 100 games. Hopefully there are 300 more senior games to come. Thank you for everybody that came and watched and also helped out on this very special day. Go Tigers!!!
