U14's Win Minor Premiership

U14's Match Report

On Sunday our Redcliffe Tigers U/14's played their last home and away game against Everton/Kenmore. A win would give us the minor premiership. With our three tall's all succumbing to injuries during the week we were left without our ruck choices, in saying that we have prided ourselves on the motto "Good teams don't make excuses", they just find ways to win.

The game started and from the first bounce it was all Redcliffe, first clearance out wide, marked then passed to half forward, marked again then a pass inside 50 and marked again. Unfortunately this great passage of play ended in a behind but the tone for the game had been set.... the boys were up and about. From there the boys continued to control the quarter and despite the oppositions effort, the boys opened up a comfortable lead. At 1/4 time we were up 4.5. 29 to 0.0.0, yet again holding a team scoreless for the quarter.

The second quarter was tighter, a little scrappy, but this was due to the opposition applying more pressure and getting behind the ball. Despite us having the ball in our half, we were unable to score as freely as the first term and went in at 1/2 time leading 6.6.36 to 0.1.0.

The 3rd quarter was much the same as the 2nd with our boys dominating possession and this time have many shots on goal but only rewarded with 2 goals ... and 10 behinds.... yes 10.... Our backline was holding up really well repelling any forward thrusts that the opposition threw at them. At 3/4 time it was our boys leading 8.16.64 to 0.2.2.

Message at 3/4 time was to start using the ball better and get the talk up.... go backwards or sideways before going forward to open up the game.

The final quarter started and the message had sunk in... the ball movement was much better and you could hear the boys calling loud for the ball. The opposition was struggling with our continuous attacks forward and we were now being rewarded on the scoreboard with goals. Goal after goal, again through great ball movements and and choosing better options. The boys had one of their best quarters of the season kicking 7 goals. We ran out easy winners REDCLIFFE 15.18.108 def EVERTON/KENMORE 0.0.2.

It was a great way to finish the home and away season and a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to the boys on being MINOR PREMIERS. We now have 2 weeks to prepare for our first FINAL... this is what we have been striving for all season, we have worked hard in all areas and improved greatly as a team. Now it's time to finish what we started... WIN that PREMIERSHIP........ GO TIGERS.......
