U14's Match Report

.

On Sunday our Redcliffe Tigers under 14's played the top side on the ladder Alexandra Hills. A win would see us with a chance of being level on the ladder with Alexandra Hills or a loss leaving us 2 games behind them.

From the moment the game started our boys looked switched on and through constant pressure and numbers at the contest we scored the first goal, then another minutes later. The opposition looked shell-shocked at the constant pressure we had, something they hadn't expected. We continued to attack and kicked another goal. Alexandra Hills then controlled the last 5 minutes of the term but due to our great work in defence we were able to keep them scoreless. At quarter time the scores were Redcliffe 3.1.19 to Alexandra Hills 0.0.0.

After a great term kicking with the wind, the 2nd quarter was going to be the big test as we expected the opposition to come out firing. Once again our boys continued to compete, tackle and pressure the opposition and again kicked the first goal of the term to open up a nice lead. The game was a ripper with no easy contests. Finally Alexandra Hills broke through for their first goal. To our boys credit they kept pressuring hard and were rewarded with a goal late in the term and went into half time leading 5.1.31 to 1.0.6.

The message at half time was to keep getting numbers to the ball, spread from the contest better and don't drop the intensity. Alexandra Hills started the 3rd term well but couldn't score thanks to great work by the backline and the midfielders pushing back. Then BANG ...., our boys took control of the game with relentless attacks forward and after a few near misses we scored the next 3 goals to blow the game open and at 3/4 the scores were Redcliffe 8.6.54 to Alexandra Hills 1.0.6.

The last term started with a quick goal by Alexandra Hills and they continued to drive forward but our defence was resilient. From there on we controlled the last term with good ball movement and decision making running out winners. The final scores REDCLIFFE 8.6.54 defeated ALEXANDRA HILLS 2.0.12 .

It was a super effort by the team . They did themselves, parents, coaches and club as a whole proud. WELL DONE BOYS ...
