U14's Gold Round 8 vs Kenmore 8/7/12

Back from a two week break and we were slow out of the blocks. With a couple of injuries and illness prior to the game I had to change my initial structure and some of my planning. Once we got under way I noticed it was going to be a fast and furious game with both sides moving the ball up and down the field quite freely at the start. We seemed to get a few unlucky bounces that fell into the opposition’s hands where they managed to score goals. The ground was very rough and in places resembled a “cow paddock” which did not help our play or confidence. The opposition managed to take control early in the game and made more of their chances.  Score Redcliffe 1.3.9 Kenmore 4.2.26

The second quarter we needed to lift and play with a bit of confidence. It seemed as though we were down and looked quite slow at times. The boys did manage to play some good patches of footy however the opposition out scored us for the quarter which undid some good work. This was probably our best quarter and with some glimpses of class that was encouraging. Score Redcliffe 3.4.22 Kenmore 7.3.45

After a half time stern talking to by the coaching staff the boys went out in the third quarter with an attitude that seemed like they were keen to amend their first half performance, however once again we could not get any score on the board while the opposition managed to make things look easier and seemed as though they wanted the ball more. The backline battled on while the ball was pumped down at them on a regular basis. Score Redcliffe 3.5.23 Kenmore 9.8.62

Final quarter and I asked the boys to show some spirit and I challenged them to take the opposition on. We were out played for the first three quarters so I wanted them to prove to me and themselves they had what it takes to compete with this team. Once again there were patches of good football and we managed a couple of goals from some persistence but we just made too many basic mistakes. Final Score Redcliffe 5.6.36 Kenmore 12.11.83

Best Players: Jack Lowe, Jordan Collicoat, Riley Anderson, Marcus Lewis, Riley Stewart and Dominic Paino

Goals: Braidyn Field 2, Sam Globke, Callum Hill, Marcus Lewis 1.

This game was not one of our best this season and the frustrating thing is that we have all seen what the boys can do when they put their minds to it. One thing I pointed out to the boys was getting around and appreciating good efforts and goals from team mates. This encouragement lifts teams and individuals and should be happening all the time no matter what the score is. I am just going to put it all down to “one of them days” and move on.

Next week we play Coorparoo at home, another good challenge for everyone.
