In our first away game for the season, the Redcliffe Tigers Under 12 team travelled to Nundah to take on top of the ladder Mayne. With both teams undefeated to this point, a tight game was expected and from start to finish, that is what we got.
The game started at a bristling pace with Mayne getting the first goal on the board before the Redcliffe midfield settled to drive the ball our way with some consistency. In a sea of black and gold (worn by both teams) Oli and Chesty were brilliant, both kicking majors for the visitors to take a lead at quarter time. Haz, Wardy, Fitzy and Bails all provided some drive whilst Mav, Linc and Cam worked tirelessly.
The next 2 terms saw a battle between the arcs as both side’s backlines combined with their respective midfields to create scoring opportunities. Ecca was rock solid for us, and showed the effort it takes to compete in footy! The home side and visitors alike, failed to make the most of their scoring shots although from a coaches point of view, it was very pleasing to see Jacky B, Jack L, Sammy and Hanners create chances for us. Zano’s forward pressure was another highlight.
The last quarter was Mayne’s best as Redcliffe began to run out steam. The hard ground and bounce of the ball appeared to be conspiring against us, although credit to Mayne for their willingness to get more numbers, at more contests and kicking the final 2 goals to run out 9 point winners.
Whilst it is completely acceptable to be disappointed with the loss, and the boys were genuinely hurting, losing games can often teach us more than comfortable victories may. We matched it with the top side and were probably better for two and a half quarters. Footy gives us another opportunity this week to play, compete and improve and with a 15% lift from this team, we will be difficult to stop.
Congratulations to Bails and Linc whom both played their 50th game for the club on Sunday!
