U/19's First For Tigers
The Redcliffe Tigers AFL Club will this year field an under-19 team for the first time in its 42-year history.
The squad, to be coached by Brendan Saggers, had been training twice a week at Rothwell Park to get ready for a good, physical 2016 season. Tiger's vice president Steve Brown said the players, who were "looking sharp", were in good hands under the guidance of Saggers.
"Brendan will be a great coach and mentor for the players," Brown said.
"Under-19 falls under the senior umbrella so it will be the first year of senior grade football for the guys".
"We have about four or five players from other clubs and the rest of them have come up through the ranks from under-8s here at the Tigers".
"We've got some quality players ... a good mix of height, physicality, speed and fitness. We'll be happy to put a competitive team on the paddock and build over the next couple of years".
Brown said the fixtures would not be decided until February, but it was likely the under-19 side would play on Saturday mornings before the seniors for home games.
