In wet conditions it was clear that hard work and numbers to the contest would be required all day. The Structural Concrete Tigers Reserves started well showing more intensity than the Lions. As the rain fell strongly the ball was wrestled up and down the ground but the ascendency was established early by the Tigers. Keeping the Lions scoreless to half time was a great effort but Coach Scott Ward had a clear message to stay focused in the second half and not let the work ethic slip. The second half played out much like the first and although the tigers only managed 39 points for the day it was a great team effort as the Lions finished with just 1. Shane Ward was good all day in a solid Captains performance. New comer Coen Slater showed a lot of promise with clean hands and good decision making and Jason “the Fuzz” Bourgoyne’s second half was outstanding. Bickerton’s work rate and commitment to the contest was highly valuable and Keiren Hart looked hungry for the ball and made the most of his opportunities. Jarrod “Scrappy” Nicholson looked to be playing dry weather football with strong marking and With Armour, A. Miller, Alkin, Dimmick, Lee and Cester all contributing well it was a great effort across the board.

The Jetts Margate Seniors took to the park with the new club jumper for the first time. Prior to the game it was clear that the group was focused and ready for the hard work facing them. Caboolture had early forward line entries but the Tigers defense was up to the challenge repelling the ball with purpose. The second quarter saw a more physical approach from the Lions as they worked hard to fight back into the match. With 3 late goals in the second Quarter the Lions had the momentum going into half time. Resetting at the half time break the Jetts Seniors started strongly in the third with Somers continuing to dominate the ruck. Bond, Lynne, Strang, and Niven shared the roving duties well offering the forwards plenty of ball. The 4th quarter became an arm wrestle as the intensity from both sides increased and numbers to every contest swelled. With caboolture pressing hard it was pleasing to see both the hunger and maturity of the side as we held off the Lions to win by 6 points. Spencer, Kingdon, Apps,  Gregory and Edlond fought hard up forward all day and The back half was high functioning  with  Backhouse, Spring, Davis, Roney, Kouvaras and Hayes all contributing well. Brown and Quarrel showed good fitness levels holding down the wings most the day and with Rolls, Richardson, Kearn and Furness blending through a variety of areas it truly was a good team performance. With all that said we are yet to test ourselves against an established Div 2 side so the trip to Kenmore next week will be a test.

With the 2012 Premiership flag raised, the Councilors’ cup, Sponsors in attendance and a good showing from the masters players and other supporters it was a big day for the club. Thanks to all the volunteers today with particular mention to Toby, The Todd, Jason “deaths door” Nicholson, Mr. Ray White and B Small.
