Tigers U14's Gold Solid In 1st Grading Game
Tigers lift to win 2nd half after slow startTigers U14's Gold Solid In 1st Grading Game
Sunday proved a bit of a challenge for many of us from setting up for
the four games on the day, pre game routines for coaches, players and
The first real hit out as a new team against quality opposition showed
we do have some work to do to be able to beat the best.
Our first half of football this year has been wiped and forgotten. I
have just put that down to nerves, shell shock, lack of confidence and
belief. Not only the players but as mentioned earlier support/coaching
staff were in the same boat. In hindsight I should have realized this
team as a whole was very new with first up coaches and support staff
along with a list of players that came together from last years
Redcliffe under 14's, 13's and Narangba along with players that did not
play last year at all. Very tough first half overall.
In the second half when the boys finally got out on the field (a tad
late oops) there was definitely an improvement in attitude, commitment
and confidence. Improved efforts by several of our leadership group in
Lewis, Bloss and Collicoat all showed the way to attack the ball. When
an on again off again Jack Lowe kicked our first goal it seemed to lift
the team a little more and that lead to another goal by Marcus Lewis.
Keeping Morningside goalless in the third quarter was very pleasing and
really showed the overall team effort and improvement in general.
The last quarter was a dour struggle under heavy conditions and a late
goal by Morningside was the only one for the quarter which was a little
disappointing after our improved performance. This however shows to me,
parents and support staff that we can compete with the best of them if
we turn up with the right attitude and belief. But one quarter of good
football will very rarely win you a game, however it was very pleasing
to win the second half.
Goal kickers for the day were Jack Lowe 1 and Marcus Lewis 1. Naming
best players was a little hard as no player had a good consistent four
quarters but good efforts from Lewis, Bloss and Collicoat certainly
helped lift the team and shows part of the reason they are in the
leadership group. A couple of players I would like to mention are Matty
Green who after having a year off is showing good signs and Riley
Anderson that just finished his cricket season has adjusted to the oval
ball well and will only get better.
Also thanks to Ryan Prentice, Cooper Archer and James Newton for playing
with us before heading South to play at Park Ridge. It was a huge effort
and I think they would have slept well. Thanks to all the support staff
for the day and hopefully throughout the year.
