Round 525 June 2009 |
Redcliffe 22.10.142 def Mt Gravatt White 3.2.20
1.
Tigers U16’s travel down to Mt.Gravatt to take on the Vultures. Our theme all year thus far has been to stamp our authority on the game right from the opening bounce and not allow the opposing team any free, easy possessions of the football. With this in mind the boys burst out of the blocks and took hold of the first quarter to dominate in all facets of the game. In the centre clearances we were led by Van Haaften who continues to provide an honest rucking contest, which then paved the way for the likes of Wadley, Dickfos, Delahay & Cester to capitalise and send the ball forward. Up forward we had Parkes, Duffill, Madden & Van Rooyen (who played his best game for the season), clearly out mark and out-play their direct opponents which enabled us to score goals in what seemed at times to be an easy display of team work football. Across the back half we had all players contribute to hold out any forward thrust that Mt.Gravatt attempted and although there were a couple of dubious goal umpiring decisions that went against us, the boys rallied and didn’t let it affect them. Strang continued his good form with another solid display of rebounding attacking football, a role he has played in all games to near perfection. Hayes playing across the wing/half forward and after initially getting a corked thigh early in the match came back on after receiving some treatment and produced his best game for the season. Another great TEAM effort. Well Done Boys.
Whilst we are sitting on top of the ladder undefeated, we haven’t had it all our own way in every game, but it has been the way the boys have gone about their roles and how well they have responded to what is being asked of them from us as a coaching panel that has been most pleasing and so too should the parents be justifiably proud of their sons efforts thus far.
We will continue to put our best foot forward and work hard and strive to maintain the good start to the season we’ve had, but a football cliché that pertains to our current situation is that for every game we continue to play, we are one game closer to a loss.
