Round 425 June 2009 |
Redcliffe 11.5.71 def Aspley 5.5.35
.
This weekend’s match saw us take on Aspley Brown at home. We started the game just as we left off from last weeks efforts against Calamvale, meaning that our first quarter was going about setting a good solid foundation for which we could build upon as the game unfolded. We held a slight lead at quarter time and even though we had our fair share of the ball and could’ve possibly been further ahead on the scoreboard, I was more pleased with our attack on the football and the pressure we put upon the opposition. As the game continued on and with our pressure on the opposition building, this then enabled us to use the football with precision passing, either by hand or foot. With this good skill work we provided our team-mates with more opportunities to find space and resulted in the scoreboard ticking over to our advantage.
Whilst all players contributed to the team performance and this is what our U16’s are all about ( TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More ) there were a couple of outstanding efforts from individual players, none more so than our Captain, Wads, whose ability to take numerous contested marks at any given stage was such a strong statement and the characteristics you would hope your elected leaders possess. Spooners and Wilko’s continued dominance across half back sees them doing more attacking than defending, which is a positive and encouraged from us coaches, Zac’s efforts in the ruck each game thus far has been huge, usually giving away centremetres in height to opposing ruckman, he always provides a contest and manages to win his fair share of tapouts. It was Luke Duffill’s turn to step up this week in the forward zone as he displayed all his skills, from strong marking to chasing and tackling he created for himself plentiful opportunities which resulted in kicking 3 goals.
Our small brigade led by Corb, Benny D Braeden C, Hayes’ Alex and Milky continue the links in the chain and together with our mid-range height players, Al, JC, Joey x2, Nico, Smitty, Braeden T, Matty, Keeno and Munsie provides us with the flexibility we need when required. Finally, Joel, Stevo, Jules Jakey and Pykey provide the size and strength and there was no better example of this than when Pykey, in front of all the Mum’s who were there for their Mother’s Day High Tea Function, took hold of the football and knowingly that a collision was about to happen between him and his opponent, handballed off to a team-mate, rode the bump, got straight up and continued to run forward. As long as we have this sort of commitment from all players, we are going to become a very hardworking TEAM and that is going to make playing football against us an extremely hard and arduous task for opposition teams to combat.
Finally I hope all our Mum’s enjoyed their High Tea and had a wonderful day, thanks to the club for their assistance with catering and to Anjanette for all her efforts to ensure the day went off without a hitch.
