Round 2, 2008

A late withdrawal from JT allowed Jake Nicholas to join team mates, Jarrod Nicholson, Scott Christie and Jordan Chidiac for their first game of the season. Redcliffe got the early jump with a goal to Joey Gould on the run within minutes of the opening bounce. Joe Cantlin chipped in with 2 goals for the quarter while Steve Parkes kicked his 1st. The defence were resilient and held Beenleigh scoreless and the Tigers led by 26 points at quarter time. Inaccuracy in front of goal in the second quarter didn't quite put the game beyond doubt at half time. The Tigers had 7 scoring shots but could only manage 2 majors, courtesy of big Jules Van Rooyen. Josh Lowe took some strong defensive marks and the backline again were able to hold Beenleigh scoreless allowing the Tigers to go into the main break leading 6.7-43 to 0.0-0. The Tigers kicked 3 goals to 1 in the 3rd quarter, then Nick Weier kicked the Tigers only 2 goals in the last quarter to see Redcliffe run out eventual winners 11.12-78 to Beenleigh 2.4-16.  Curtis Allen was outstanding all day. With the late withdrawal of JT, there was a lot asked of Curtis, but he did the job, plus some... Lachlan Soutter played another terrific game as did Matty Palmer. It was good to see Tyson Brown get his hands on the ball a lot more while Tyler Hayes showed he could be a handy onballer when needed. It was a great effort from the whole team. Well done guys.
