The U16’s returned to the winners list after a very hard fought match against Mt.Gravatt on Sunday. This game was played in some fairly ordinary conditions as we had all four seasons in the one day. Just as the game got underway a huge downpour made for some very slippery and greasy conditions for handling the football, but we managed to score a couple of quick goals through some solid teamwork and this was enough to have us in front at the first change. Mt Gravatt to their credit continued to press forward and if not for some untidy finishing off in front of goal, we could’ve found ourselves in a very different scenario going into the half time break. The boys had worked extremely hard in the first half and they deserved to have their noses in front on the scoreboard. The talk during the half time break was focussing on that we needed to continue with our all over pressure and not allow Mt Gravatt any easy uncontested possessions. As the rain continued to fall during the game it was turning into a real scrap and all players were dogged in their efforts as they tried to keep the ball moving forward at all costs. Even though we were tiring toward the end of the game and just managed to hold on for a hard, but comfortable 13 point victory, I was very pleased with the boys endeavour to bounce back after such a dismal performance the week before. The boys responded to the challenges put to them before and during the game and once again showed that with the proper preparation, an honest attitude and a full commitment to the team’s core values, that each and everyone of them has a valuable role to play in this team. If they continue to play that role to the best of their ability then they will reap the rewards that come their way. Well done boys!
Sam Cabrera playing in his first game for us was able to give us some much needed drive from the centre and along with Braeden Cester, Ben Strang Ben Delahay and Joe Cantlin, all were solid four quarter contributors. Others who played well were Joel Adsett, Corbin Dickfos, Matt Spencer and Jarrod Hayes.
