The U12's again got to show the other youth and 18's players and coaches why they are towards the pointy end of the ladder this season as on our big day of football at the tigers, our boys took on Springwood. We were lucky that by playing first we had the best of the conditions and it was up to us to use our home ground advantage against a side who had troubled us for a bit in our last meeting.

.
Our training focus during the week centred on our both tackling technique and the ability to hold a player fairly in a tackle while at the same time having the necessary aggression to ensure the tackled player knows he has been hit. after a bit of "expert" coaching from Jerry and Commando the boys had the tools they needed. Before the game we reminded the boys not to worry about the conditions as they were, we both had to play in them and we knew the ball would be on the ground a bit so our tackling during the week needed to come to the fore.

.
While we all know this is the first "serious " year of football for most of the boys and it is our aim to win every game we play, it is also the first opportunity for the boys to start to learn about the game. and when I say learn I mean they have to be able to think about the game more than just kicks and handballs. Not even so much the 1 %'s like tackles and shepherds. Rather it is about them being able to adjust their game to suit both their own needs and the needs of the team and it is important that they realise that what they do individually affects the whole team, so maybe playing in a different positions gives them a chance to do there "bit" for the team and contribute to its success.

.
So it was we asked some jobs of a few players in the game today and each and every one took on the responsibilities asked of them as they knew it was in the best interests of the team. For most of the game, because of the conditions, we had a fairly scrappy contest which we had confidence our boys had the ability to win. Take nothing away from Springwood though who were right in the game at every stage and even had times were they dominated play and had us under pressure. To our boys credit though, and I believe this is the hallmark of very good sides, we were able to come away with a victory despite not being at our best.

.
Today we had some fantastic individual efforts, and while I think today every one contributed, I need single out some players for special mention.
Two players at different scales in terms of height and weight, but equally as quiet as each other, and I speak of Jade and Jordan, both at critical times in the game made the ball their sole focus and came up with big marks that saved us down back..... Fantastic Boys !!

.
Another two players I asked to do special jobs today, and they are Brodie and Lachlan. Both performed about as good as you could possibly get from an under 12 player. I asked Brodie to follow a player who in the last game had tried to get under our boys skin, and he not only totally contained him but also picked up possessions of his own. And to Lachlan who I had playing the role of follower ( i.e. ruckman for those of you not from my era ) for the whole game. Well done mate on perhaps your best game for the year..... excellent boys !!!
I need to mention also Dan, Ethan, Jack and Declan for following instructions to the letter.
Lastly I just want to make mention of the games of Mitch , Ryan and Josh, three of our key runners and ball winners who each performed at a level we hope they carry through the second half of the season just as they have the first.

.
This was a game that could quite easily been one that got away but thanks to the skill, courage, commitment and desperation of each and every one of our players we come away with a gutsy win !!!
I need to say a big thankyou to Connor Bloss for taking his place in the team today to get us out on the ground. Thanks mate but we all cant wait for you to be back out in the middle !!!!
Thanks also to all our parent helpers each week, we cant have the game without you.

Once again our tigers u 12's enjoy singing the song !!!!!!
Enjoy your break boys..... and parents !!!
