Tigers Roll Continues....
With fifteen rounds down, and only three to go until the finals, the Redcliffe "Magic Meat" Tigers sit in a 3 way tie at the top of the ladder with next weeks opponents Beenleigh, and Robina who Redcliffe play the following week. They are 2 games clear of 4th placed Moorooka, then daylight between the rest, however a healthy percentage see's the Tigers at the Top.
On Saturday, Redcliffe took on a determined Ipswich team which proved to be a tough battle to win. Both teams spent the first 10 minutes of the game getting acquainted with each other until Redcliffe's running players started to find the ball and the Tigers managed to kick 4 unanswered goals, until Ipswich kicked their first major for the game right on the siren. Redcliffe led 4.5.29 to 1.2.8 at quarter time. The 2nd and 3rd quarters were a tough yet scrappy affair with Redcliffe only adding 5 goals to their tally, however they were able to contain Ipswich to only 1 goal for the 2 quarters, and had what most people thought, the game under control, leading by 47 points at the last change. However Ipswich had other ideas, and kicked the first 4 goals of the final quarter to reduce the lead to within 4 goals. Kieran Ashby goaled for the Tigers to steady the ship, then James Niven kicked what many thought was the sealer, however Ipswich fired back with 2 quick goals of their own, before Kieran Ashby kicked his 2nd goal for the quarter, then Andrew Kouvaras put the game beyond doubt when he slammed through his 1st goal for the day with only minutes to go. The Tigers were able to hang on and win 13.14.92 to 8.11.59 dispite a 6 goal to 4 last quarter from Ipswich. Shaun Dowell who got the Tigers under way with the first goal of the game was outstanding all day. Steve Jenkins, Gary Spencer and Scott Davis held the backline together, while Shane Ward and Andrew Kouvaras kept the forwards busy. Marcus Gregory hit a purple patch in the last quarter and became a ball magnet, while James Scapelli and Joel Ralph took their many great grabs around the ground. Kieran Ashby was the Tigers top goal kicker with 3.
The Tigers hope that their winning streak of 6 games continues next week when they take on Co ladder leaders Beenleigh at Beenleigh. The task will be made that little bit harder without the services of Captain Josh Bond who will miss next week clash, however coach, Paul Albon is quietly confident that the Tigers are heading in the right direction with the finals just around the corner......
