After a long trip down to Robina the team was quietly confident after having dismantled UQ the week before. With an adjusted game plan to play the league leaders and the awareness that the season was hanging by a thread the team was also focussed and committed to one another for what was set to be the challenge of the season for the Redcliffe seniors. After a deliberate and purposeful warm up the game was set to get underway. The first quarter started with high intensity seeing both sides sharing the clearances but Robina were first to score with a couple of early goals. Some clever play through the midfield and disciplined acts up forward saw the Tigers kick straight to wrestle back the lead early in the first quarter. From here on in Robina put the foot down and never looked back finishing in front at the first break 10.3.63 to Redcliffe 4.3.27 Robina’s strong defence and relentless run in numbers sore them hold the Tigers to 1 point in the second quarter going in at half time with a 72 point lead. The team rallied around each other at half time and whilst the third and fourth quarters proved to be just as damaging on the scoreboard as the first half the effort and attack on the football from all players remained consistent throughout the game. Whilst the day at Robina is not one for the scrapbook there were still some great efforts to be seen. Captain Josh Bond held his head high all day and lead consistently to the right spots and stayed positive all day with his talk. Brad “Lazy” Laycock snuck in for another 5 goals and brother Craig presented well all day with several goal assists and 1 for himself. The midfield ran hard all day with Ward, Lee and Jenkins all using the ball well and working hard but were overwhelmed with too many opponents to keep in check as the wave of Robina players surged forward at every chance. Under 18’s player Tyson brown played his first game for the club and did himself proud with several selfless acts earning him multiple possessions and several other first game players all played their part in what was a difficult day out. After being involved in a seesawing 3 weeks of football with two big losses and a great win last week the season still has some life as we approach next week’s home game against Kedron. A committed week on the track and a resolve to improve ourselves at every chance should see a closer game this week at Rothwell Park.
