Reserves Report:

After letting last week’s game against Coomera slip away this week’s encounter was shaping up to be a cracker. Keen to make a mends for last week we booted the first goal quickly, but Uni weren’t going to lie down having the next 4 scoring shots. Their inaccuracy helped our new look backline push the ball forward. With Watson, Spring and Shane Ward back from early retirement consistently diffusing Uni‘s attack we were able to settle in the game and land 2 more majors for the quarter holding them to just the 1.

The second quarter also went our way with Scalpelli looking dangerous up forward as well as Hart, and Ward running amuck through the centre. Our tackling pressure lifted and the running Uni side found it hard get the ball deep in their scoring zones. With Dooley, Burgoyne and Nicholson continually moving the ball towards our end of the ground we were able to kick away a little further finishing the half 21 points in front.

After the long break in the game Uni came out with something to prove, to their credit they lifted their intensity and really came out hard, but we, to our credit absorbed everything they threw at us and lifted ourselves. Around the ground Rolls, Heath and Caddy providing targets helped us to outscore them again, including a gutsy effort from Barnes to snag his second of the day.

Only having 3 men for most of the game with Sands down and out through a calf injury, it was time for us to stand up and dig deep. Possibly our lack of fitness allowed Uni to kick a couple of goals or possibly Uni just stepped up again, but as we do, our Tiger team accepted the challenge and became desperate. Carmen, Burgoyne, Loughnan and the Ward brothers showed their experience in the dying stages of the game to seal the 14 win.

Over the last 2 weeks I think it shows exactly where we are as a team. Running hot we can beat any team we play against, but not playing the full 4 quarters is showing us where we can be beaten. This game was good for numerous players to stand up, Fittock, Carmen, Shane Ward, Barnes, and many others really showed what they can do. This was a win we deserved but now we move and look forward to our local derby vs Caboolture.
