Redcliffe Reserves Round 2

With a big handful of players unavailable for various reasons, the high from last week’s nail biting win started to wear off and it showed in the warm up, which continued into the first quarter.

Both sides struggled to adjust to the wind in the first quarter, but Nambour and their young running side with the help of an undisciplined Redcliffe Tigers side kicked the first and only goal of the quarter. There were some positives to come out of the first quarter, like the backline holding strong when our opponents had 11 inside 50’s but only 1 goal. With Williams and Crowley repelling every attack that Nambour attempted the young running side soon realised they in for a tough day, even though they led at quarter time.

Trying to climb his way back into the senior team, Wilson really stepped up and showed our senior coach that he wants back in. Again though the tigers were a little undisciplined but that was over shadowed as our ruckmen Le Mescam and his on ball group started to get on top. After not kicking a goal in the first we went into half time with a 1 goal lead.

Starting the third the game was well and truly up for grabs but the Tigers kicked into gear and showed they are the better team. With Spring and his half backline not letting anything past it made it easy for our runners, Foley, Humphrey and Dragicevic to take over. Continuing to move the ball forward it was time for Southgate and Frusher to take some grabs and tick the score board over which enabled us to take a 4 goal lead into the last.

With the hot sun taking its toll on hard runners our running ball getters handled it better. Easily our best quarter of the year so far, brought everyone into the game and allowed names like Driver, Forbes and Fittock to show what they can do making it hard for selection this week. Kicking 5 for the quarter including a sneaky little one from Barnes we showed ourselves what we can do with right attitude and discipline. If we carry this last half of football into every week we can really go a long way this year.
