Tigers Dig Deep For Gutsy Win!

This week we ventured down to Park Ridge focused on only one thing in and that was to score our first win. The pre-game warm up was different, the feel was different and we had a special reason to lace up the boots and wear a black arm band for Ricky’s (Milligan) loss during the week. We spoke about respecting ourselves, the opposition and the umpires and that was exactly what we did.

From the first bounce we had made a transition and began to gel like the team we knew we had on paper. Our guys were covering the field really well setting up the walls and counteracting their forward entries. Seth Lauze and Jye Davis were owning the half back line with Budah (Lal) and Springer controlling the play deep in our backline. With Tyler Hayes providing drive out of the backline and Lochie Soutter with his head over the footy and repelling the ball out as quickly as it was coming in our back line. Tyson Brown was finding plenty of space out on his wing giving us plenty of run and launched a kick from well outside 50 in the last quarter that got us in a winning position.

With the strongest forward line we’ve had this year with Josh Bond playing his usual game getting his hands on anything and everything that came near him, also Kingo a great inclusion in his 2nd game back kicking a vital goal for us in the 4th quarter and Stevie Helliwell with his footy smarts getting to all the right spots and also kicking a goal when we needed it. Dave McInnes was also providing plenty for us swapping into the ruck and snagging a couple of handy goals for us, snapping the first goal for us for the day from a good 40m out. Our workhorse Dan Rolls was getting to every contest and with his strength was able to give us first use of the ball at a lot of the stoppages.  We bought Georgie (Armagos) and LeMiz (Le Mescam) up this week and they were doing their jobs well and truly from down back with George steady under pressure and a strong target for us up forward with LeMiz kicking the goal that sealed it for us after a strong grab! Cooky was getting his hands on plenty of footy on ball and kicking a monster goal from near the 50m arc after a strong grab. Our on ball and center line brigade were on top most of the day with skipper Ben Foley burrowing in the packs and turning up with the footy as he does time and time again giving us heaps and Niv playing a defensive on ball roll. Sauce has taken on the taggers role so far this year and doesn’t he do it well shutting down their young gun.

Our thoughts are with Fraser and Quaz who both sustained injuries and we wish you a speedy recovery. Lastly a special mention to Ricky Milligan who played out of his skin wearing the black arm brand with absolute pride taking marks that didn’t look possible and booting home 2 goals that were much needed at crucial times! All in all it was our grit and determination that got us over the line and 9.17 still not as accurate as we would have liked but the goals are coming.

Next game at home vs Carrara will be another good test of our character. Let’s stick together boys and get our season back on track.
