Slow first half cost the Tigers

With a lot to play for and in perfect conditions for football the Tigers banged on the first goal but were slow moving from here. Wynnum seemed to have an answer for us every time we had a run at them. Wynnum was playing their spare man down back very effectively which made it hard for us to get the ball down deep into our bigger targets in Steve Parkes who kicked 2 goals for us and Josh Bond who snagged another bag of 4 goals. A special mention to Gary Spencer who was under the pump down back all day and was rock solid in his efforts. Damien Lee has really taken ownership of the tagging role for us this season and hasn't let us down yet with his tenacity. Stevie Helliwell was lively down front before a hard knock but managed to kick a goal beforehand. As usual Dan Rolls was the trojan getting to every contest with his massive engine running all day and taking some strong overhead marks. Ben Foley and David Cook were burrowing in and under and coming up with the footy for us. Seth Lauze and Nick Spring were strong across half back directing traffic and giving us good use of the footy rebounding the ball back out again. On the wings Ricky Milligan and Tyse Brown were fighting hard for us trying to pump the ball forward at all costs. Aaron Richardson hit a purple patch in the middle getting clearance after clearance and plenty of drive throughout the game. Marcus Gregory, Tyler Hayes and Marcus Gregory found themselves in similar spots and fighting hard for the football with Hayes coming out with a goal from his attack on the footy. Pete Furness and Lochie Soutter were running their usual hard straight lines counteracting their forward entries. Dave McInnes, Billy Beatty and Aaron Kingdon were finding it hard in their roles with the Wynnum players getting numbers behind the ball at every contest but our boys still managing to create a contest and not allow any easy possessions for their backmen.

The first half of football we were very reactive until we pooled together at half time and booked our ideas up and came out in the second half and began to play our brand of football and certainly had a sniff at one stage to take the game out. However as mentioned Wynnum had the answers for us late in the game and went out victors by 3 goals.

Next week a big game against ladder leaders Griffith Moorooka. Our improvement will only come from time spent on the track, see you there Tiges...
