Reserves Round 17
Last time we played Coomera I called it the one that slipped away after a disappointing last quarter, so with the magpies sitting second on the ladder this encounter became crucial for us.
Not being as focused as we should have been before the game, showed in the first quarter. Again, we were slow out of the blocks giving Coomera a 4 goal jump, but with true Redcliffe Tiger spirit we hit back late in the quarter through Laycock and Southgate which gave us the confidence and belief that we needed.
During the break we talked about our accountability needing to improve, it still needs some work but we took some important steps towards it by winning the quarter and closing the gap at the halftime break. As usual our backline were winning their one on one contests led by the general Watson, and getting good support from Crowley and Le Mescam gave Spring a license to cruise through the quarter doing what he wanted.
After the major break we ran into wind which made this an extremely important quarter of footy. Running into the wind and winning the quarter seem to dishearten our challengers as Rawlings, Frusher, Carmen, Ward and Humphreys put their class on the game. We still didn’t have the lead that we needed but when the quarter had finished you could really feel the vibe, the boys were all buzzing as they knew what they had done had just set the game up for us.
Starting the last, the feeling was good we just needed to take our chances in front of goal. The defensiveness of Coomera by dropping two loose men back at the start of the quarter didn’t seem to help them as the ball stayed in our half of the ground for most of the quarter. We won the quarter through efforts of everyone, but a couple stand outs efforts from Dooley, Sculthorpe and Williams really showed how we go about our footy.
This was a game we needed to win, and through or guts and determination we have really put ourselves in a good spot. Enjoy this win but let’s not get too carried away as there is still a lot of footy to be played yet.
