Reserves Report Round 14

Coming off a couple of 10 goal wins, our game against Ipswich was more about redeeming ourselves from our last encounter with them.

Starting off the game slow has become a habit that we have to rectify, Ipswich came out hard and got the jump on us, kicking the first few meaning we were chasing their tails from the get go, but it was only a matter time before our potent forward line of Laycock, Frusher and Southgate got their chances. Finishing the quarter down on the score board but having more scoring shots let us go into the break feeling like we were on top.

The second started with us coming out hard, and our backline with some fresh faces in Kestle, Dowdle and Space mixed in with Watson, Royine, Crowley and Spring were solid as always and held the Eagles scoreless. With Ipswich not scoring our 4 goals 3 for the quarter gave us a handy 4 goal lead into half time.

Holding our opponents to just 2 goals in the third but only kicking 2 ourselves let the eagles think they still had chance, this quarter may have been even on the score board but there were a lot of positives to come out of it, with the midfield in Ward, Carmen, Loughnan and Christie all stamping their authority on the game.

With a level third quarter it was time for us to kick into top gear. We worked hard to break our opposition and our dominance became apparent as Frusher’s boot started to work, a good spread of goal kickers became available. Kicking 6 goals 4 in the final term, allowed us to run away with healthy final margin.

We have had 3 big wins in 3 weeks but we can’t rest on these as they were against sides that we won’t come across in the finals. Our top of the table clash against Beenleigh has come at a great time for us as we reach the business end of the season, so rest up, train hard and prepare for a hard battle next week.
