Under 12's Cement 3rd With A Win Over Kedron
Our training during the week was focussed on being prepared for the conditions a night game creates. Playing on a Friday night completely changed the TEAMs preparation but all of the players were great in accepting what they needed to do. The parent’s assistance was also fantastic.
The conditions prior to our game weren’t as bad as initially expected. We wanted to make sure the players enjoyed the night game but they also needed to stay focussed on the role they had to play within the TEAM structure.
We played a game of two halves. In the first half we executed some excellent passages of play. Although lacking talk around the contests everyone was playing their part in making sure we had control of the game. Our runners were picking up possession after possession, the defenders attacked every contest that came their way and they all worked well together to stop our opponents from having scoring opportunities. Our key forwards took great advantage of our overall dominance by having a winning score on the board by half time. Excellent contributions and commitment from all players was fantastic to see. A great TEAM effort gave us a comfortable lead at the main break. Well done everyone.
The most important message at half time was trying to ensure the players realised that although the opposition were undermanned they would come out and still have a crack. We made a number of changes to try players in different positions and we wanted to continue to give players the best opportunity to show us the can play a role within the TEAM.
With so many positional changes and the conditions getting damper and much much colder the game turned into a bit of kick chasing and kick to kick. The ones who were prepared to go in for the ball got it but with our structure not what it should have been we couldn’t take advantage on the scoreboard. By resting players in the second half of the game it showed how important it is to our TEAM that all our leaders are out on the ground. Their leadership, experience and in particular the attack on the footy is a great example for everyone to follow. Overall it was great to get another win and to hear the players sing the song again. Well done TEAM!!
Congratulations to the award winners and thank you very much to the helpers.
The journey our players have taken from February to now has been a steep learning curve. They have most definitely earnt their spot in the finals by working hard together to get there. They should be proud of themselves and we all should be proud of them.
We are in the finals and I want to make sure we get the most out of this opportunity we can. We have next weekend off but I believe we need to keep the TEAM together as much as we can. Finals football is an exciting time and the players should be able to enjoy it together. We need everyone committed and working together to make sure we give it our best shot when we play Ferny Grove in our semi final on Saturday 28th August at our home ground.
Congratulations to the Tigers under 14s side. All the players, coaches, support staff and helpers should be proud of the achievements you have made this season. Playing division 1 football at any age group can be a challenge but you all stuck together and should hold your heads up high.
Good luck to our under 16s side for the finals. I watched your game on Sunday at Aspley, your commitment at the contests and the way you worked together was fantastic. I look forward to seeing you step up to the next level required to bring success in your finals campaign.
See you all at training Monday.
