U12's off to a Flying Start

With some different players in our TEAM from last week and some positional changes, we again were looking to learn as much as we could from the game.

Our preparation during the week was focused on our fitness and our skills with the TEAM working hard during most parts of our training nights.

We expected coming up against Calamvale would be another good test as the games between the two clubs are always spirited encounters and the first quarter met our expectations. Both teams attack on the football was fantastic and the ball was worked up and down the ground with both sides having some opportunities. Our back line and in particular the half back line was working very well. Our forward line had some good opportunities but we just couldn’t get the score on the board that we probably should of.

Qtr Time Score –

Redcliffe: 1 . 5 : 11
Calamvale: 0 . 4 : 4

The quarter time break gave the coaches an opportunity to have the TEAM refocus on Talking, working hard at all times when the ball is in your area and use the ball better in our forward area. We also made a couple of positional changes.

The second quarter saw a few more of our players get their hands on the ball and our run, our teamwork and pressure all over the ground gave us much better results on the scoreboard and more importantly built confidence within the TEAM.
Our forwards worked harder, our players across the middle became more involved and our back line let nothing pass them. A great TEAM quarter!!

Half Time Score –

Redcliffe: 5 . 7 : 37
Calamvale: 0 . 4 : 4

Half time allowed us to make some more changes and try a few players in different positions. I also stressed that we had only played half a game and that we couldn’t afford to drop our work rate and pressure.

The third quarter turned into a tight contest and proved to be a battle. Some of our concentration dropped and some efforts to put pressure on were not up to a level the coaches expect. Our forwards worked very hard to make the most of the opportunities they had and also putting pressure on the opposition as they tried to get out of the area. The TEAM soon learnt that if their efforts through the middle of the ground drop off, it can put our back line under huge pressure and can allow other teams to kick some goals. Luckily for us we had a back line that were prepared to work and be desperate for the ball.

Three Qtr Time Score-

Redcliffe: 8 . 8 : 56
Calamvale: 2 . 4 : 16

Again we made changes to keep everyone in the game as much as we could. I also wanted to make the TEAM aware that if our efforts dropped it allowed easy goals to be scored against us.

The last quarter saw our players work hard to keep pushing the footy forward. We also started seeing some good pressure being put on Calamvale players with good tackling and sheppards being laid. We had a few players looking tired so we put some fresher legs out on the ground and finished the game off exstremely well.

Well done on a good TEAM effort and again thank you to all our helpers.

Final Score –

Redcliffe: 11 . 11 : 77
Calamvale: 3 . 5 : 23

See you all at training.
