Tiger's win under lights at Calamvale

A wild thunderstorm and playing under lights didn't stop the Redcliffe Magic Meat Tiger's from continuing their strong start to the season with a solid but sometimes scrappy 5 goal win over Calamvale last Saturday night at Calamvale College. The wild thunderstorm stopped the Reserves game for 10 minutes in the 1st quarter as the players and officials took cover from the very heavy down pour and lightening strikes. After the storm had cleared, play got underway again, but the slippery conditions didn't make for pretty football. Calamvale got the early jump on Redcliffe with a goal in the opening minutes, but Tigers Full Forward, Clint Frusher squared things up a minute later with the 1st of his 3 goals for the game. Good pressure from the Tigers defence saw Calamvale miss opportunities in front of goal and although Calamvale had 2 more scoring shots at goal, Redcliffe went into the first break with an 8 point lead. The Tigers kicked 4 goals to 3 in the 2nd quarter to lead by 15 points at half time, but it felt like deja vu had hit, as Calamvale were able to hold Redcliffe goalless in the 3rd quarter, however inaccuracy in front of goal cost Calamvale the lead at 3 quarter time. They kicked 1 goal 5 behinds to Redcliffe's 4 points. With only 8 points in it at 3 quarter time, it was anyone's game, but the Tigers turned it up a notch or 2 in the last quarter and totally took control of the game. Redcliffe had 11 scoring shots in the final term, but could only converted 3 of them into goals, however they were able to hold Calamvale scoreless for the quarter and ran out eventual winners 11.15.81 to Calamvale 6.12.48. Kieran Ashby and Shaun Dowell have come up through the Reserves and certainly made their presents felt, while last years U16's player, Marcus Gregory was amongst Redcliffe's best.
The Redcliffe Bayview Hotel Reserves, led Calamvale by 6 points at half time but were held goalless in the 2nd half to go down 3.5.23 to Calamvale 7.8.50.
