I was quietly confident that we could beat our local opponents, Caboolture, this week and after a late call up to the seniors I was able to watch the boys play from the sideline for only the second time this year. On such a big oval there is no place to hide and that is what I wanted to instil in the players, the need for every player to contribute. The first quarter was an even battle, I thought we had more of the play, however we let ourselves down with poor disposal and decision making.
The second quarter went much the same however this time Caboolture capitalised on their opportunities and went to the half time break with a 3 goal lead. Steve Kennedy was playing a great game as were Mick Campbell, Kylie and Toby but our disposal was still a problem.
The third quarter saw the boys play more as a team and although Caboolture increased their lead by a goal, there was some good ball movement, better teamwork and more numbers at the ball. Mick Parmenter was coming into the game on his debut for the Tigers, Nige and Watto were repelling most of the attacking moves and our onballers were still working hard.
Unfortunately I didn’t see a lot of the final quarter but was told that it was our best quarter. This is a good sign for the final 2 games as previously we have run out of puff in the final quarter. This week we have Calamvale in our final home game for the year and those who played them in the first round know that we owe it to ourselves to give them a beating.
