Reserves: Rd 2 Beenleigh vs Redcliffe
The boys made the long trip to Beenleigh and just like Round 1 numbers were at a bare minimum. The 22 who took the field were the only 22 who made themselves available. As a coach the only benefit of this is not having to leave players out but of course the lack of depth and lack of pressure on the playing groupfar outweighs this!
The match began in extremely hot conditions with Mick Bell starting in the ruck and the experienced JJ, Ando and Scotty Ward patrolling the midfield. Both teams worked the ball well through the wide open spaces of the Beenleigh oval but at quarter time it was the home team who had a 2 goal break.
The 2nd quarter went the Tigers way.....everywhere except on the scoreboard! The Tigers were on top all over the groundbut failed to capitalise, scoring 6 behinds to the oppositions 2 goals straight. Rugby league convert and first game player Dale Shegog gave good service from the backline, Kylie and JJ were creative through the middle and the forward line was on top but couldn't find the gap between the big sticks.
Half time came and went and the premiership quarter began. Unfortunately Beenleigh were the only team that came to play and at 3 quarter time the game was effectively over. To the Tigers credit we matched the opposition in the final quarter, a positive sign for the future. So while the scoreboard showed a big loss it was only the 3rd quarter that really let us down. Already we can see from 2 matches that the competition is tough this year and that is one of the areas of focus for improvement...toughness over 4 quarters.
Match Highlight...Kylie's delivery into the forward line.
Match Lowlight...The umpire..if you were there you know which one!
