Round 5 saw us head up the highway to Pomona and the anticipation of a wet ground proved to be true with puddles of water covering the picturesque venue. Unfortunately only 16 Tigers turned up for the battle but 2 of the locals donned the Tigers strip to even things up. The first quarter was an even contest with both teams trying to navigate through the drier parts of the ground. Neither midfield could gain the ascendancy however at quarter time it was the Tigers who held a slender lead even with Paul Benton spending some time on the sideline trying to stem the blood coming from his nose after a late hit.

The 2nd quarter was played in similar vein to the first however Scott and Woody both succumbed to hamstring injuries and had to play on one leg for the remainder of the game. Quicky was moved to the forward line and provided instant results whilst the backline was doing its best to hold firm against the determined locals. As the half time siren sounded Pomona now found themselves in front by the narrowest of margins, 1 point.

With injured players and no bench there was not much room to manoeuvre players around so the plan was to try and go straight down the corridor in the second half. The local boys could sense that the Tigers were tiring during the second half and began to push a little harder, creating overlaps that were hard to nullify. To the Tigers credit we kept battling and at 3/4 time were still in the game due to the run of Shayne, Paul Benton, Steve Brown and Paul Duffy.

The last quarter finally saw the Tigers run out of steam and a 5 goal burst in 10 minutes from Pomona proved to be the deciding factor as they ran out winners by 41 points. All in all it was a great team effort by the Tigers despite losing. Kudos to Scott and Woody for battling on with their injuries and also to Robbo who copped an awkward one and had the wobbly boots on 5 minutes from the end of the game.

Next game is 27th June vs Caboolture at Caboolture so heres hoping we can put together a strong team for that one…
