Senior's Match Report

.

With 2 loss's already on the board and Kedron with two wins  for 2  games, we knew going to their home ground wasn't going to be easy. With a good week on the training track behind us, 22 men turned up focused and ready to play.

The first quarter was all Tigers with 7 shots on goal but only resulting in 1 goal 6 behinds.

The 2nd quarter started much the same with Gunn taking plenty of contested marks and Foley finding plenty of space in the middle of the field. Once again our ability to convert our chances was starting to show going in at half time kicking 2 goals 9 behinds.

After the long break, we came out and should have put the game out of reach, but for missed chances and then a few fluke goals from the sideline, Kedron where back in it.

The last quarter the game was there for which ever team was willing to do the hard yards. Unfortunately it wasn't Redcliffe with undiscipline play creeping into our game giving away 50m penalties and all of a sudden, Kedron hit the front.  With a quick reply we got the lead back, but Kedron kicked back to back goals to give them an 8 point lead. With a couple of injuries on the bench in Ward and Goodenough, Redcliffe didn't quite have the legs to see out the game, even with a late goal from Captain Josh Bond it wasn't enough as the final siren sounded we fell short by 2 heat breaking points.

Looking back over the game there where plenty of positives , Tim Backhouse did a fantastic Job on their key forward holding him to just one kick all day, while James Niven's return to form was outstanding and Tim Rhodes did a great job on a very tall forward.

With our trip to the ever improving Logan next Saturday and our season on the line, anything but a win will not do...

The first quarter of the Redcliffe/Kedron match was tightly contested, with Redcliffe taking control of the clearances and generally controlling the ball through the middle of the ground. The Redcliffe forwards were provided plenty of opportunities with Shane Ward and Scott Wilke dominating early, however the forwards were unable to capitalize on their chances….kicking 1 goal and 6 behinds in the first quarter. Gunny was a strong target across half forward, as all forwards were getting their hands on the ball without taking their chances.

Tooly was controlling the backline and continually punched to Redcliffe’s advantage with every opportunity.

The next two quarters were an arm wrestle with Redcliffe still showing the grit and determination to win the hard ball. The tackling was superb and whilst the forwards continued to win the ball, goals were very hard to come by. Josh Bond was sensational up forward, providing second, third and even fourth efforts to maintain the ball within the forward line.

The last quarter was a different story, with Kedron showing more run and pressure. Redcliffe kept breaking down across half forward with the ball being rebounded off half back by Kedron too easily. The ruck division for Redcliffe tired and Kedron started to win control of the contested ball. Kedron kicked 4 goals to 2 In the last quarter to overrun Redcliffe in a nailbiting 2 point loss.

Whilst it was a disappointing loss for Redcliffe, unfortunately the best team on the day didn’t come away with the four points.
