Redcliffe Eclipse North Shore In Tough Encounter

Redcliffe were too strong for a gallant North Shore team in Sunday's U18 Northern Conference clash at the Mudjimba Sports Complex.

Ben Strang of Redcliffe gave an outstanding display of ball control in his domination of the midfield. He was well supported by Tyson Brown whose ferocious attack on the ball and skillful delivery provided the forwards with many opportunities. Beneficiaries were Joseph Catlin, 7 goals and Patrick Pyke, 6 goals. Catlin was elusive and creative in the heavy conditions and certainly added the necessary finishing skills to the forward line.

Redcliffe had many fine players who responded well to the guidance from their experienced coach Ash Humphrey. Corbin Dickfos played the wing like Andre Rieu plays the violin, always in the right place at the right time. The 200 gamer, Nathan Wadley, celebrated his achievement with a tireless display of courage while Steve Parkes was a focul point across half forward.

North Shore are a developing team with many newcomers to the game. Their commitment was constant as they worked hard to pressure their more experienced opponents. Zac Ryan was a standout in defence thwarting more enemy advances that William Wallace in the movie Braveheart. Seemingly all over the ground Jake Cosmai often beat 2 or 3 opponents in an attempt to advance the North Shore team.

There were strong performances from rugby league converts Jackson Shearer, (son of Dale Shearer rugby league international and legend in the game) and Brad Cvilikas. Both have excellent potential and will benefit from game time against experienced players.

Brock Zeidler controlled the ruck all day. A very fit and noticeably athletic player who will be a real assett to North Shore in the coming weeks.

North Shore coach Warren Selvage and team manager Peter Bax must be thrilled with the way this team has come together in their inaugral season in the competition. Redcliffe are definitely a finals contender and provided the North Shore contingent with some understanding of the standard of the penthouse teams in the competition.
