Pre- Season Report.

Since taking over from Paul Albon two weeks before our Christmas break we have had great numbers turning up for training, not falling below 20 people per sessions. With our focus firmly set on fitness we set about the hard task of long distance running combined with constant 1km time trails and a final 3km time trail. Tyson Brown set pace early and finished with a time of 12m43sec. Joel Ralph following close on his heals with 13min 26 sec & Joshua Bond not far from the two leader’s on14min 21 secs.  With Christmas came a well earned break and for most a dropping off of our fitness although no one told Joel Ralph who came back looking in top condition after losing a few kilos.

January 13th was our first training session for 2009 and with a fitness test planned 29 keen players started the beep test.  New comer Matt Walsh and veteran Shane Ward finishing on level 9 .2 and new recruit Nathan Mackay was the last to finish on level 9.4.  The  400m sprint  proving no where near as hard as the beep test the boys ran the lap easily but with new comer Jason Brown proving to hard to catch with a 55 sec lap  while  Matt Walsh and Shane Ward  came home with 1.01 and 1.02. With tired legs and heavy breath they pushed out a few sit-ups and pushups, which completed our fitness test. Over the last two and half weeks our numbers have increased to nights of 33, 30 and peaked with 35. We have plenty of new faces each week plus a few of the old ones coming back. Training has been at a high intensity, fitness combined with plenty of ball work has the boys training hard while have plenty of fun.

With a list of over 50 people already training and with only 7 weeks until our first match, those looking to play in either side need to be training now.

I would like to take this moment in congratulating Shane Ward and Steve Jenkins on becoming senior playing assistant coaches for 2009. With Joshua Bond and Joel Ralph being named Captain and Vice Captain. We also welcome Brett Kern back to the club as Reserves Coach with his assistant Nick Spring who both are quality assets to our club. Well done boys! I would also like to welcome all the new players to the Redcliffe Tigers.

With our Season staring with two practice matches on the 14th and 21st March and round one on 28th March I urge all players to come down to training at 6pm every Tuesday  Thursday and come support our mission a  for back to back 09!
