Redcliffe 15.3.93 def Caboolture 0.0.0
The Redcliffe Tigers under 14's travelled to Caboolture to play their first grading game of the 2009 season.
. With three key players missing including Captain Trent Ely, and key position players Luke Pittle and Josh Driftman it was always going to be an unknown guess as to how this team would perform.
A combination of new players to the club and sport, mixed with first year 14's and second year 14's it was any bodies guess as to how they would blend together. After the first 15 minutes it was clear to see that the repeated instructions and lessons taught over the last 10 weeks of preseason had firmly been planted in their brains and it was time to put it all into practice. Every member of this team played as if they have been together for a few years and regardless of positions played, they utilized their teammates to great effect. In an unselfish and team orientated performance each player can hold their heads high knowing they all tried to do the right thing the majority of the time with only skill errors the main problem.
Special mention of toughness and courage was a David and Goliath contest between our own Josh (Marto) Martin and a Caboolture player twice his size. Head on collision with the ball the objective from both players. When most would have been looking for the medic and the bench, Josh dragged his aching, winded body up before his opponent and looked to see where he should be next. That is a spirit we hope to build this team on. Well done everybody especially Bradles, AJ, and Reidy the players who missed out today, but helped their team prepare and then ran water for them. That's what we are about.

.Redcliffe 4.10.34 def Aspley 2.8.20
Today the tigers under 12's travelled to Alex Hills to play the first grading game of the year against Aspley. During the week we spoke about doing the little things, the 1 % ers, to help out both the team and your teammates. i also ask the boys to be focussed and switched on from the time they first arrived at the ground, so it was pleasing to see the majority of the team at the ground well before the 3 pm start ( thank you mums ans dads !!!!).
We had Nick Gregory as our captain for the day and i mentioned to nick that he was now playing the season for both he and his brother Marcus and as coach of the under 12's and on behalf of all our players and parents i want to wish marcus all the best in his rehabilitation and we have an open invitation for him to come down and help our under 12's if and when he likes.
The game started with the tigers kicking into a fairly swirly breeze in the first quarter and despite aspley peppering the goals they were unable to make the most of there chances and our back six led by kyle, Josh.H, Braidyn and Brodie more than held there own. brodie, in his first game for the tigers, was impassable in the backline and a special mention to jack for his two crunnching tackles in the first few minutes of the game, that set the seen for our day.
We came in a quarter time with the boys knowing they were in a game of footy, but we were happy to have held our own and not let Aspley score a goal which was a win for us.
The second and third quarters the tigers again managed to hold there own and draw the quarters with Aspley which for us was a win because we knew all our preseason training would enable us to run the game out. our midfielders Josh.p, Daniel, Ryan,Nick, Jack, Mark Connor, Ethan and Curtis were all beginning to get on top of there opponents and at three quarter time we mentioned to the boys it would only take one good quarter to win the game and they still had that quarter to go.
In the last quarter Shaun took a turn in the ruck after dan's fantastic effort and with our back six and our midfielders all working extra hard in the contests it opened up chances for our forwards and Lachlan, Bayden Billy, Jade, Jordan and Seb all benefited. A special mention to Seb, also in his first game for the tigers, who was a livewire both forward and back and will improve out of sight in the weeks to come. also i have to make special mention of Declan who played on our forward line and in the last quarter was asked for a big effort to get us over the line and took control of the game at critical points. once we got our noses in front the boys really started to believe and we run all over the top of aspley and i believe our boys could of played another quarter and still had something left in the tank.
All in all a very pleasing effort and i was happy everyone contributed to the team effort and if the boys continue to believe in, and work to our team rules and style we will improve further.
Today the under 12 boys showed true tiger spirit !!!!!
a big thank you to all the parents and our fantastic team manager wendy for today.
And i also would like to give a very special thankyou to Kyle, Lachlan, Luke and Ben for coming to todays game and supporting the boys in real team spirit. thank you very much boys.
