Match Report Under 12's

All Ends In A Draw
Being More Competitive Does Help The TEAM
Our week at training began with former Redcliffe Tigers player and coach Jock McReadie coming down to take training on Wednesday. I thought it was time for different voice to do the talking and someone who I know understands what we are working to achieve. After letting Jock know the areas we fell down in during our game the week before I left it to him to come up with the training drills to help the TEAM work at improving. The training session was excellent and the players thought it was “Mad”!!
Our warm up on Sunday included making sure a couple of players were over some sore spots and then we also had to cover the loss of Aidan who was not feeling too good.
We covered a simple game plan and I reminded a couple of players that it was time their efforts in particular had to pick up. As a group we wanted to get back to being competitive at EVERY CONTEST.
Our first quarter was very encouraging with all players putting themselves in and attacking the ball. Our pressure on the opposition players was excellent and it resulted in them missing several opportunities to score goals. We could not question our players’ determination, as it was obvious everyone out there wanted to do their bit for the TEAM. Jordy went down with an injury from a knock that only men & boys would know how much hurts. Typical Jordy he still managed a quick smile for his concerned Mum as he came off to recover. This allowed us to get Jake into the game. Right from his first contest he began showing he wasn’t going to let the TEAM efforts drop off.
Quarter time break came and we wanted the players to remain focused and talk with each other about keeping their efforts up so we got them in their groups as per the positions on the ground. When they all came together I wanted them to know their efforts were fantastic and that if they could increase the talk around the contests we would get more rewards from the efforts.
The second quarter continued on the same way. Along with our leaders we were seeing some great improvement from Kyle, Sam, Ben and Jake. Lauchy D popped up in the forward area to put through a couple of goals and the enthusiasm was great amongst the TEAM. Jordy was back out there courageously putting himself back in for the footy after recovering from “that” knock. The opposition’s frustration was rewarding us with some opportunities but we couldn’t quite take advantage. This caused our players to then focus on areas they couldn’t control and it lead to a late goal to our opposition, which was the only disappointing part of the first 2 quarters.
Half time again was about remaining focused on our roles and being competitive.
We made a couple of changes and reminded the players the job wasn’t done yet.
The 3rd quarter was a battle and it was obvious that both sides were desperate. Our back line, lead by Finn and Riley, were really under pressure. Some caused by good play on the opposition’s behalf but mostly because we started to get a bit lazy and were not following instructions. Again we had the usual leaders working hard along with Jake, Finn and Riley but we have to remember that it will always take the 18 players out on the ground to push themselves at every contest for us to do our best.
3 quarter time break was all about getting our breath and focusing on working hard for the last quarter. The players needed to understand how important it is to finish off games and that the efforts needed to pick up again.
The last quarter started with the opposition kicking 2 goals in the first 5 minutes and taking the lead so this was going to be a good test for us. Again a bit of laziness and lack of talk cost us control of the game. We had most of the play in our half of the ground from then on but they had decided to crowd our forward line making it hard for us to benefit from our efforts. No matter how much we pushed the ball forward we couldn’t get a result on the scoreboard, it was a great battle to watch. Tom managed to work to a spot where he could take a nice mark and go back to take his kick for a goal. Well done Tom, the TEAM needs those types of efforts from everyone.
The game ended with the result undecided. The part that was obvious was our TEAM displayed a much better effort and importantly it wasn’t all left to the leadership group.
There were encouraging signs from all players and we must now focus on making sure we build on the efforts that were shown and keep improving for the remainder of the season. Consistent Efforts at Every Contest for Every Game by Every Player.
Well done to Ben and Callum. I spoke to these 2 lads during the week and let them know it was time for them to show what they are capable of and that they were 2 players who’s efforts needed to lift. They responded very well and it should give them confidence to keep improving. Jake’s game was his best for the year. He has shown us all that he is capable of getting himself involved and working hard for his TEAMmates, well done!!
The TEAM needs all players giving their best efforts for us to start winning games again. We have a great opportunity to play in some finals games but more importantly we have to keep improving and developing as a TEAM.
Thank you to our TEAM helpers, your efforts are much appreciated.
To all Parents, family members and friends thank you for your support and encouragement towards the TEAM. Your cheers and appreciation helps create an exciting, positive environment for the kids to display their talents.
I took the opportunity to watch our Under 14s play against Morningside and it was a great example of competitive Youth footy. It would have been good to have all our Under 12s there watching just to see no matter what your physical size or the Teams position on the ladder, if you work hard for each other and compete at each contest you will bring the best out in your TEAM. There were some fantastic individual efforts from the leaders of the Tigers team but it was also great to see the players who stepped up from last years Under 12s team putting themselves in at every contest they were involved in. Well done to everyone involved.
See you all at training. We need to make sure everyone is at training on both nights. We have 3 games left for the season fixtures and all 3 will be very important. After that we will hopefully have some finals games so the more we train the better prepared we will be. Please remember to contact Simon with any training attendances issues.
