At times the mere mention of preseason training can send a shiver down the spine of many a footballer. The thought of 3km time trials, beep tests or wearing out a set of runners can make that couch seem real comfortable. The question of commitment was soon put to rest as our first training session saw 50 players in attendance and 30 - 40 at each night since. The return of many members of the 2009 squads, including some key players back from lengthy injuries, some new talent and a group of very keen U18 players has instilled a noticeable buzz around the club for our 2010 assault on the competition.
The senior coaching staff of Sippa, Taz and Browney have ensured some solid workouts, focusing on specific football related fitness and conditioning while the bootcamp style sessions from Chappy are adding to the already visible benefits. The endeavour at each session by all participants should create some real competition at the selection table for this upcoming season. My tip is: if you haven’t been down to training as of yet, then the time is now, put your hand up and make yourself part of a group building confidence (and fitness) with every session! Preseason is the perfect chance to work on that beach body for the Summer break.
. As mentioned, the on-field part of our club is travelling along beautifully. Much of this can be accredited to our extremely competent off-field Committee. Darren and Steve are consolidating their outstanding management efforts of last year and Heathy has landed the crucial role of President of the Junior Club. The dedicated duo of Rob and Deb are still on-board and Ash is already working hard to build a strong U18’s line-up. We say goodbye (for now) to Barry Anderson and Brett Kern, doing so with hope of future returns and welcome our appointments for all of our coaches and committee members for season 2010.
If all this footy is just too much then upstairs is the place for you. There are numerous memberships for those who don’t run around kicking footies all day, with JJ, Lenore and the ‘return of the cook’ Ricky to guarantee you an enjoyable meal, comfortable gaming or just a relaxing beer. Although this piece has turned into an advertisement of our club (un-intentionally of course), my point should be clear....The Tigers are looking for big things this year across the board and I for one can’t wait!
