Depleted Tigers go down to Eagles

Quarter 1

Kicking against the wind in the first quarter the Tigers lined up to take on the unknown Ipswich side. Ipswich jumped out of the gates early kicking a quick goal, followed by another and our back line had all the pressure on them. If it wasn't for inaccurate kicking the Eagles could have blown the game out very early in the piece. There loose man floating around our centre half forward line was proving costly for us with alot of our forward line entry getting intercepted. The had 10 scoring shots (3.7) in the first quarter and we knew we had a game on our hands.

Quarter 2

Kicking with the wind in the 2nd gave us more drive pushing the ball forward but to the Eagles credit they chopped off alot of our delivery again and moved the ball efficiently up the wings and giving their forwards plenty to celebrate. Their tails were up with our guys often looking flat footed. Once again they added on the score board pressure with another 9 scoring shots (4.5) and we managed 2.1 to go into the half time break still within range at 5 goals down.

Quarter 3

After a half time rev up and some reflection on the year so far we went back out to try and turn the tables, however Ipswich had the answers and continued to pump the ball down forward to their tall targets. Our defense was working over time with the pressure continuing constantly. Their fast paced ball movement was impressive as was their work rate around the stoppages. They kept finding scoring shot opportunities with another 10 scores (5.5) and made the situation very difficult to rectify.

Quarter 4

We had one goal in mind from the 3 quarter time huddle, that was to win the quarter. We couldn't allow the flood gates to open and fall away, so what happened as a result was us heading out there and working hard to tackle, shepherd, use the handballs, maintain possession, use our voice and pick each other up off the ground. They managed 6 scores (3.3) to our 2 straight goals, though we didn't win the quarter we did manage to concede the lowest scoring quarter from them for the game. The Eagles were too good on the day and took the 4 points away from us. Max Kouvaras was great in his first Senior game for the Tigers, as was Connor Cronin and Garry Spencer in their return game from injury and a special mention to Tim Backhouse for stepping in to play and was solid also. Plus Aaron Richardson and Dan Rolls played their usual never give up game and had plenty of the football. Lastly as mentioned the back line worked tirelessly all day.

3 games left, hosting Bond Uni next week, so we'll be back on the track on Tuesday and preparing for the next challenge. The Reserves are flying high at the moment and we need everyone behind us as we come into the business end of the season.
