The slow starts to matches appear to be behind us if the last couple of games are any indication. Scoring 6.2.38 to nil in a tricky breeze was our best quarter so far this year even out doing our great start last week. Once again Conor and Brandon rebounding the ball off the half back line set up numerous entries into our 50 and our zone locked the ball in until we could have a shot at goal. The ruck work by James was of the usual high standard but was complimented by handball receives and shots at goal. The endeavour and second efforts by the entire team was first class and the execution of our handballs was great to watch. The improvement in this area has been tremendous over the last few training sessions.

With a start like that I guess the second quarter was always going to be hard to improve on. Unfortunately the discipline and to a lesser degree the effort dropped off just a little and let the opposition in for a cheap goal. With numbers dropped back in defence by our opponants and a crowded forward line we found it hard to get clean possession and effective shots at goal. Although we were able to maintain our 38 point advantage at half time the breakdown in our structure and lack of accountability was disapointing.

The 'spray' from the coach and a belly full of lollies must have done the trick at half time as the start of the third quarter was all Tigers. The desperation in the backline by Oscar and Elliot by taking possession under pressure and using the ball effectively was what we expect by our back six which has been a settled unit all year. The barracking by Deidre and her helpers also deserves a mention, I am sure the players can hear the encouragement!

A couple of positional changes were made at three quarter time with Finn moving to full forward and Cooper back. With the game under our control a couple of set plays from training were encouraged to further the teams development. The courage of our players has also improved dramatically since round one with numerous players putting themselves in harms way for the team. Despite the pleading from Damien to his teammates we were unable to crack the 100 points but a score of 96 to 22 was our largest of the year and very pleasing.

Thanks for a great effort team

Regards

Spinksie / Brad.
