Saturday saw the Redcliffe Tigers Players' first T20 cricket match fundraiser. The plan is to host the event annually and donating the proceeds to local charity organisations. This year's recipient, Tim Rhodes, received $650 to assist him during another upcoming operation.
The match looked to be under threat with overnight rain however at 10:45 the coin toss was completed with Damien Lee calling correctly and sending Josh Bond's side in to bat.
With modified rules, similar to indoor cricket we were underway. As expected the first over set the tone with wickets & boudaries bringing cheers from the crowd! For the first innings, on a slow green top, Dragicevic, Allkin, Bond and Fredericks batted well whilst Strang, Weier and Rhodes were excellent with the ball. The score was 60, mainly due to the loss of 21 wickets, each costing the team 5 runs.
With a modest target and a firming pitch the run chase began well until once again wickets began to fall, leaving the match in the balance with just 8 overs to play. A strong partnership between Lee and Spinks put the chasing side in a great position with man of the moment Rhodes finishing the innings brilliantly, clearing the ropes twice in the final over. Fredericks, Wain and Allkin bowled well but were unable to prevent Team Lee from a comfortable victory, winning 87 - 60
Final scores : Team Lee - 17/172. Team Bond - 21/165.
We would also like to thank Brett Somers, Mitch Shaw, Ash Humphrey, Curtis Nicholson and Kristy Richter for all their help on the day.
And of course, without umpires the match is not possible, so special thanks to Shane Ward and Ben Small for their excellent decision making and overall control of the match, which was played in fantastic spirit...
